Virtual UC Panel Welcomes Vertical Communications Senior Product Manager
By Jacqueline Lee, Contributing Writer
Jon Young (News - Alert), a senior product manager for business communications provider Vertical Communications, will participate in a Virtual UC panel discussion as part of ITEXPO East, which takes place today through Friday at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The panel discussion will occur on Friday, February 3, at 11:00 a.m.
Rich Tehrani, CEO of TMC (News - Alert), which produces ITEXPO East, expressed enthusiasm about Young’s participation on the panel. “As more communications services become virtualized or move ‘into the cloud,’ enterprises are seeking ways to increase network efficiencies and reduce capital expenditures while leveraging these powerful new technologies.” The panel discussion, he stated, would help companies in their quest to stay “ahead of the curve.”
Young spearheads Vertical’s Wave IP communications platform and works to craft UC and IP business communications solutions that increase efficiencies and productivity for organizations. He brings more than 21 years of experience in telecommunications product development and management to his position on the panel. In addition, Young will comment on the evolution of UC solutions from a fringe technology to a frequently-used business tool.
Unified Communications seeks to unify the user experience across multiple media types and multiple devices. For instance, a person may retrieve a company voicemail via email or via cell phone when using a UC platform. In addition to voicemail, UC also extends to video management and data services. Companies who implement UC, for instance, can conduct business meetings by video conferencing instead of flying employees to business meetings in other cities.
While many IT managers express confidence in the ability of UC to save money, many businesses balk at the upfront investment. Many businesses also express discomfort with the inability to acquire watertight cost projections for UC implementation. IT managers, in addition, have difficulty convincing upper management of the potential ROI. Fortunately, evolving cloud offerings are helping to defray some of those upfront costs.
As businesses look to stay connected to their employees anytime and anywhere, UC solutions providers are seeing increased demand for the incorporation of mobile platforms. Mobile end users, according to experts, will be the key users of converged UC applications within the near future.
